Global Payments First to Bring VeriFone PAYware Mobile for iPhone to Canada

On September 15, 2010 VeriFone Systems, Inc. (NYSE:PAY) announced that Global Payments Inc. (NYSE: GPN), leader in electronic payment processing services, will distribute and support VeriFone's PAYware Mobile secure card payment system in Canada. Global Payments is the first payment processor to offer Canadian customers VeriFone's unique card processing solution for the iPhone digital device.

Global Payments will begin immediately to make the PAYware Mobile card encryption sleeve available to merchants. VeriFone's sleek and durable card reader slips over iPhone 3G and 3GS to accommodate secure card swipes and allow individuals and businesses with new or existing merchant accounts to qualify for lower-cost "card present" transaction fees.

"VeriFone has created a market-leading mobile payment solution that will expand electronic card acceptance to a broad range of merchants and small businesses for which a payment-enabled, multipurpose smartphone is the best option for electronic payment transactions," said Jeff J. Global Payments Adopts Federal Government’s Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry in Canada

On May 17, 2010, Global Payments Canada, a leader in electronic transaction processing services, announced that it will adopt the Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry in Canada, introduced by The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, on April 16, 2010.

Global Payments continues to be an active participant in discussions and consultations related to the Canadian payments industry and the Code of Conduct specifically.

“Global Payments is committed to our role as a partner and advocate for our merchant clients,” said Jordan Cohen, President. “We will support the Code and its goals of ensuring greater transparency, flexibility and choice for Canadian merchants.”

Global Payments Celebrates Its Eighth Anniversary and Listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)

Better Investing Magazine’s Editorial Advisory and Securities Review Committee recently featured Global Payments Inc. as the “Stock to Study” for May 2009.  Global Payments was chosen based on the Company’s international business opportunities, as well as the increasing reliance on electronic payments worldwide.

In honor of the Company’s anniversary, President and COO, James Kelly rang The Opening Bell, accompanied by Global employees who were chosen by lottery to represent Global’s worldwide locations.  Employees participating include Eric Becker, Bill Kastner and Clare Mascuch representing Global Payments’ headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia USA; Amy Blundell, Christy Buchanan and Serge Fong representing Global Payments Canada; Ryan Dippmann representing the Check Services division in Niles, Illinois; Daniel Honick and Sabal Sahid representing a major operations center in Owings Mills, Maryland; and Dharmesh Patel and Steve Smith representing HSBC Merchant Services, Global Payments’ joint venture in the United Kingdom.

Mac Schuessler, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, and Laura Coerper, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs and Community Relations, for Global Payments also participated in the Opening Bell ceremony.

Jordan E. Cohen Appointed Vice-Chair, Canada Region Advisory Board

On Thursday March 5, 2009, Kevin J. Stanton, President, MasterCard Canada, announced the appointment of Jordan E. Cohen as Vice-Chair of the Canada Region Advisory Board.

Comprised of senior MasterCard management as well as invited senior officers from institutions which participate in the Canadian payments business, the board provides MasterCard with independent insight, perspective and support to MasterCard’s strategy and direction as it relates to all aspects of the payments business.

Mr. Cohen, President of Global Payments Canada GP, has 20 years of experience within the merchant acquiring industry. Prior to joining Global Payments, Mr. Cohen was an executive with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Global Payments’ Merchants to Accept China Unionpay Cards in Canada

Chinese visitors to Canada will enjoy greater convenience and payment choices

Global Payments and China Unionpay (CUP), China’s leading bankcard network, announced an agreement  that will, for the first time, allow China Unionpay cardholders to use their cards at select merchants in Canada.

The acceptance of CUP cards in Canada is expected to be a welcome advantage for the more than 150,000 mainland Chinese residents who visit Canada annually as tourists, business people and students, as well as for domestic merchants that enjoy a franchise with Chinese customers. CUP and Global Payments agreed to be corporate partners in Canada, with the understanding that Global Payments will work with China Unionpay to have CUP cards accepted in more places around the world.

James G. Kelly, President of Global Payments, said, “CUP is an important partner of Global Payments. The launch of this business initiative in the Canadian marketplace heralds an important step on the way to global cooperation between the two parties.”

“China Unionpay is excited to be working with Global Payments and to be able to provide our customers with greater payment convenience when travelling to Canada,” said Mr. Cai Jianbo, First Executive Vice President, China Unionpay. “The acceptance of CUP cards in Canada is an important milestone in our global network development.”

The announcement was made at an event held at Global Payments’ Canadian head office, attended by Chinese officials including Ms. Zhu Taoying, Consul General of China in Toronto, and Mr. Huang Zulin, General Manager, Private Banking, Bank of Communications. Also in attendance was The Honourable Michael Chan, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, The Honourable Gerry Phillips, MPP from Scarborough-Agincourt and City of Toronto Councillor Mike Del Grande.

China Unionpay (CUP), founded in March 2002, is a national bank card network in the People’s Republic of China operating under the approval of the People’s Bank of China. Headquartered in Shanghai, CUP has grown into a bank card network with more than 200 Chinese domestic and international bank members. 1.7 billion CUP cards have been issued by member banks worldwide. CUP has extended its reach into many other countries and regions, including Australia, Japan, France, Germany, Macau, Hong Kong, and USA. CUP cards can currently be used for cash withdrawals from ATM machines in nearly 50 countries and regions and at POS in 31 countries and regions.

Global Payments Celebrates Milestone Anniversary by Ringing the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange

Global Payments’ employees, representing a cross-section of the company, rang the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, March 23, 2006, to commemorate Global’s fifth anniversary. On February 1, 200l, Global Payments’ executives also rang the Opening Bell, signaling the formation of the company and first day of trading under the ticker symbol GPN.

Chairman, President and CEO, Paul R. Garcia, lead the ceremony along with a delegation of Global Payments’ employees, who were chosen by lottery to represent the company’s divisions and major locations. Global employees include Mark Kabaci and Fio Griffith, representing Global Payments’ headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia; Rafael Cruet, representing Global’s Check Services Division in Chicago, Illinois; Robert Jarrett, Gregory Barnes, Nasser Bakshi and Bo Blanton, representing major operations centers in Baltimore, Maryland and St. Louis, Missouri; and Marlene VanZyl and Wilson Hon representing Global Payments Canada.

Global Payments was recognized recently by MasterCard International with an impressive award for Data Integrity and Excellence in Processing Accuracy. The award honored our North American operations, including Canada and the United States. MasterCard International is a leading global payments solutions company.

MasterCard’s Data Integrity Performance Award Program was developed to recognize the outstanding performance of processing companies who consistently demonstrate processing excellence by providing accurate authorization messages. MasterCard’s objectives for the program are to increase sales and profitability through accurate data in the authorization messages – data messages that are used to make decisions for approval or decline of cardholder transactions.

Global Payments Reaches “The Global 50” Echelon

Global Payments Inc. was included in a recent listing of “The Global 50” published by InformationWeek magazine. According to the magazine, “The Global 50” is composed of the fastest-growing large companies operating in multiple countries including the United States and outside North America.

The magazine ranked businesses with U.S. headquarters, operating in multiple countries, and have the greatest year-over-year growth as a percentage of revenue. The list was compiled using information provided by Reuters, public data such as Securities and Exchange Commissions filings, Hoovers Online and InformationWeek sister publication Optimize.
